How the dates are counted

Every rental rolls over on its own schedule

  • Daily. A new charge every day. Today’s day is already charged, so the next one you can still stop is tomorrow’s.
  • Weekly. Every seven days from the start date, whatever day of the week that is.
  • 28-day. Every 28 days, so it lands a couple of days earlier on the calendar each month. Why that matters: 28-day vs monthly billing.
  • Monthly. The same day of the month as the start date, moved to the last day in shorter months.

One date is easy to check. Twenty rentals across five jobs is where charges slip through. Rental Leak tracks every rental’s billing cycle and shows the charges coming up this week.

Common questions

How do I find when my rental rolls over?

Count from the start date on the agreement, not from the first of the month. A weekly rental rolls every seven days from the start date, a 28-day rental every 28 days, and a monthly rental on the same day of each month as the start date.

Is a 28-day rental the same as a monthly rental?

No. A 28-day period is four weeks, so it rolls over a couple of days earlier on the calendar every month. Over a year that is 13 periods, not 12.

What if my rental started on the 31st?

A monthly rental that started on the 31st rolls on the last day of shorter months, then back on the 31st when the month has one. A rental that started January 31 rolls February 28, then March 31.

Does returning it on the rollover day stop the charge?

Under most agreements, a new period starts on the rollover day, so returning the equipment that day or calling it off with the notice your vendor needs heads off the new period. Check your own agreement: vendors differ on notice and pickup rules.

Does this checker save anything?

No. Nothing you enter is sent or stored. The dates are worked out in your browser, and a shared link carries only what you typed into it.
